Step 1: Order Your New Hosting Account Start your hosting transfer by signing up with Credible Hosting. After activation, we’ll email you your login credentials, setting the stage for the next steps.
Step 2: Backup Your Current Data: Visit your hosting provider’s host’s control panel, head to the ‘Backups’ section, and select ‘Download or Generate a Full Website Backup’. Depending on your data size, this might take some time. Optionally, request an email notification once the backup is complete. Save this file to your computer.
Step 3: Upload and Restore Your Website Files Log into your new Credible Hosting account at www.yourdomain.com/cpanel. Upload the backup file from your previous host. Follow the on-screen instructions to ensure all data is correctly placed and confirm the upload completion before moving to database restoration.
Step 4: Restore Your Databases This critical step involves uploading and configuring your database backup files. Navigate to the MySQL Databases section in cPanel to update user details and permissions. Adjust the database prefixes to match the new settings and update your application’s configuration files accordingly.
Step 5: Transfer Email Accounts Ensure the continuity of your email communications by transferring your email settings. Upload the mail and settings from the folders located at /home/USERNAME/etc and /home/USERNAME/mail in your previous host’s directory. Verify successful setup under the ‘Email Accounts’ section.
Step 6: Update Your DNS Settings Before finalizing the transfer, preview your website using the IP address provided by Credible Hosting. Once everything looks good, update your domain nameservers to Credible Hosting’s DNS. DNS propagation typically takes 24 to 48 hours.
Step 7: Cancel Your Old Hosting Wait at least three days post-DNS update to confirm that your site functions as expected across different regions. Once satisfied, notify your previous host to cancel the old hosting account.
